If you’re looking to promote your business through YouTube advertising, understanding the world’s largest video hosting site can feel intimidating
According to YouTube, users view a staggering 1 billion hours of content every day. Businesses have increasingly turned to YouTube advertising, with 62% of businesses using it to promote their services. Here are our top tips on using YouTube to maximise your business’ reach…
1. YouTube Thumbnails
The thumbnail of a YouTube video is the first thing your viewer will see, so having a stand-out design is essential. Make it clear what your video is about by including a title in an easy-to-read font, but make sure your design does not become crowded. Remember that almost 70% of viewers watch YouTube videos on their mobile phone, so using space and keeping things simple will attract more eyes than a busy and messy thumbnail design.

2. Naming your video
Almost as important as your thumbnail is your video title. To bring in as many views as possible, make sure your title is both descriptive, and appealing to the YouTube algorithm. The algorithm loves keyword-heavy titles that make your content relevant so research your keyword strategy and make sure your title has gone through a rigorous SEO process.
4. Make your YouTube content dynamic
An amazing-looking thumbnail and catchy title won’t bring you any customers if the content’s not there. Given that you only have a few minutes to grab your audience’s attention, you can’t afford to lose viewers to a slow-moving, dull or needlessly complicated YouTube video. Energetic pacing using an upbeat script and supportive audio-visual design will all go a long way in stopping your audience from moving on to a different video.
5. Maximise your video's reach
To maximise the reach of your video, promote it on as many platforms as possible. Post it on your business’ LinkedIn, add it to your company Facebook page, link it to your blog… the possibilities are endless. Think creatively about how you can incorporate your YouTube content into other social media platforms — could you edit the video content you’ve just created into a TikTok video, for example, or post it to Instagram as a reel?
